To all you wonderful people who want to make healthy changes I wrote this post especially for you.
Whether you’re wanting to make small changes to graduate to 1 big goal for yourself or if you just want to live a healthier lifestyle this post is for you!! So often I hear, and I’ll be blunt here “excuses” as to why eating healthier is hard. Agreed, it can be hard but when we can shift our mindset and create healthy affirmations around food eventually overtime once we will establish a habit and it won’t seem so hard anymore. I am 100% positive at some time in your life you’ve had to make a habit change, at first it seemed miserable and tough didn’t it? Now you look at that habit and go WOW I do that everyday without even thinking about it. Same goes for changing your eating habits. Trust me, once we can begin to take control of the inside of our bodies the outside reflection will automatically be a benefit to these changes. I’ve been there, I’ve had to make adjustments and as I’ve evolved into my fitness journey my body doesn’t adapt to certain foods like it used to therefore I’ve struggled with gluten, dairy, starchy carbs all the good stuff RIGHT? So I’m here to understand your frustration and I’ve come up with some quick & easy tricks to begin making small habits for yourself and possibly your family!
STEP 1: ALWAYS BE PREPARED.
What do I mean by this? I mean prepare your meals that you bring with you either for a day you’ll be on the road, at work, meeting. We all are in control of creating small snacks and meals for us to bring along. When I go out of town I typically cut up carrots, celery, and sometimes even asparagus or cucumber. I pre bag these and pop them in my purse. I will also take a banana, rice cakes, or even now my Isagenix protein bar or packet of protein. This way when you’re driving and possibly bored out of your gourd you can subconsciously devour these fruits and veggies GUILT FREE! Pretty sneaky isn’t it?
STEP 2: WHEN YOU HAVE THE CRAVING FOR NAUGHTY FOOD, DRINK WATER!
When I was prepping for my figure competition I have so many cravings it sometimes was unbearable, and I did give in sometimes I’m not perfect but then I wasn’t proud of myself because I knew I was stronger. So I’ve created this habit whenever I see peanut butter snickers or Twix or chili cheese Fritos instead of obsessing over them and imagining how delicious they will taste I instantly stop the thought in my head and chug water. Yum, tastes like a gooey Twix or a zesty crunch of a Frito, joking it doesn’t but the empty calories and UNNEEDED and save the guilt we’re stronger than that.
STEP 3: SUBSTITUTE PASTA WITH VEGGIES!
Gosh I love doing this so much and since I’ve cut gluten out I used to only use brown rice noodles and now I don’t even go that route. I use my veggie spiralizer to make ZOODLES and spaghetti squash also for noodles and even spaghetti. Eliminate the bloat and water retention with veggies and your joints and gut will definitely thank you!
STEP 4: DON’T RESTRICT YOURSELF TOO MUCH
Making small steps is a hard conscious job in itself so don’t go telling yourself that you will be eliminating all pop, sugar, wheat, milk, gluten, artificial sweeteners and expect it to POOF happen in the first week. That was a joke, hope you laughed but in all seriousness literally take it one day at a time. If you’re an avid pop drinker start by eliminating 1 pop from your normal pops that week or that day. When I’m saying start small, literally start small. What this will do then is week 3 will go by and you’ll probably not even notice that you don’t crave pop anymore and you’ve implemented water instead. See! Small changes will create your foundation to a SUCCESSFUL lifestyle change.
STEP 5: TALK NICE TO YOURSELF
You might be thinking now, WHAT? That’s a legitimate step? Well yes ladies it is. What we think inside our wild globes of a skull is directly connected to how we eat, what we eat, WHY we eat like we do and inside there is the power to decide to make the change. I do suggest literally writing out affirmations and keeping them close to you at all times until this becomes a habit so if you need it in your notes of your phone please do so, or nest to your bed or on the fridge whatever works. I’ll post affirmations below because we can be really hard on ourselves when we don’t need to be. If you take this slowly day by day you’re trying right? So why get down, feel negative, and feel that void with potentially food? We are absolutely beautiful we just need to BELIEVE that we honestly truly are. We need to eat for NUTRITION not temporary pleasure. If we can change the way we think about this beautiful vessel we are in for our 1 life we have, you might think about taking your health serious.
I FREELY RELEASE ALL LIMITING BELIEFS FROM MY LIFE ( this can be huge when we find ourselves telling ourselves that we CAN’T make this change, don’t believe the lie )
I CHOOSE TO ONLY ACCEPT BELIEFS THAT EMPOWER ME ( right on sista, we have full control of what we allow to soak into our spongey brains. Does this though I’m thinking or someone said to me EMPOWER my new decision? Yes or no )
Here’s the ultimate mother load of affirmations…. READY!!???
I. WILL. NOT. FEEL. DEPRIVED WHEN I BYPASS JUNKFOOD ( instead ) I WILL FEEL “EMPOWERED” THAT I MADE A HEALTHY CHOICE
